5 Million Dollar Bail set for accused murders

In their initial court appearance on Monday in Dakota County Court Judge Kurt Rager set bond at 5 Million Dollars for Andres Surber and Brayan Galvan-Hernandez on amended charges filed by Dakota County Attorney Kim Watson.

Additional remains were found over the weekend as the investigation into the murder of Kraig Kubik continued. The additional remains showed that Kubik was shot in the head with a 9mm handgun before being dismembered. Dakota County Attorney Kim Watson said the nature of the crime and the previous criminal record justified the 5 million dollar bail.

Andres Surber now charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, Use of a Firearm to commit a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a prohibited person.

Brayan Galvan-Hernandez now charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, and use of a Firearm to commit a Felony.

Both requested and were assigned court-appointed attorneys. Galvan-Hernandez said in court his family plans to hire an attorney.

Surber and Galvan-Hernandez are accused of killing and dismembering Kraig Kubik sometime in the evening of November, 1st. Dakota County Sheriff's Department, Dixon County Sheriff's Department, and Nebraska State Patrol began the investigation on November 2nd when Kraig's 5 year old made comments at school that triggered a welfare check by Dakota County Sheriff's Department.
