Officer Cleared in Officer Involved Shooting Death in Sioux City

Woodbury County Attorney Patrick Jennings finds the Officer Involved Shooting Death of Daniel Riedmann on December 7th in Sioux City was justified.

In his review of the case, Mr. Jennings considered the laws of the state of Iowa with the facts of the investigation to determine that Mr. Riedmann's actions, refusal to comply with commands left Officer Dylan Grimsley no choice but to use deadly force to protect himself and other officers on the scene.

The investigation concluded that Mr. Riedmann had an outstanding warrant for a felony parole violation, was known to be armed and dangerous, had a loaded handgun, was under the influence of Methamphetamine's and Amphetamine's, ignored numerous commands to exit the vehicle, made sudden and aggressive movements in the vehicle, 4 shots were fired by Officer Grimsley's service weapon 3 of which struck Mr. Riedmann causing death.

Officer Grimsley returned to duty on January 6th, 2017 from Paid Administrative Leave
