An updated press release on Thursday identifies 64-year-old Ernest Warnock as the remains found in the house fire on Saturday. The cause of death is not being released as the investigation of his death and the fire is ongoing.
A press release on Tuesday afternoon confirms that Bancroft, Rosalie and Pender Fire responded to a house fire about 2:22 PM on Saturday, March 22nd north of Bancroft.
The release says that human remains were discovered burned in the home. Nebraska Fire Marshall's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Cuming County Sheriff and Thurston County Sheriff all responded to the scene. The fire investigation is ongoing. We visited the scene of the fire Sunday afternoon but Nebraska State Patrol was unable to answer any questions or confirm a death or link to the stabbing. We have received reports that someone died in the fire and Nebraska State Patrol confirming the area was considered a crime scene and investigators were on the scene Sunday.
We were also on scene at Mercy Medical Center when Nebraska State Patrol had a vehicle towed Saturday Night tied to the stabbing that was discovered early Saturday Morning in Dakota County.
