Couch fire causes a cold evacuation for residents of Castle On the Hill Apartments

Sioux City Fire Rescue responded to an alarm at The Castle On the Hill Apartments on the 600 Block of 13th Street at about 10:30 this morning.



Engine 1 and Truck 1, initially responded to the call. Upon arriving, they found heavy smoke and sprinkler activation on the 4th floor. Engine 4, Engine 3, Truck 3 and Chief 19 were dispatched to the scene.

Crews quickly began ventilating the building of smoke and worked to evacuate residents to a waiting City Bus. A couch on fire was found to be the cause of the alarm in apartment 410 and extinguished.

Scanner traffic indicated possible water damage in apartment 110,210 and 310 and significant damage in apartment 410. Support for traffic control was requested during the incident as well as the Fire Prevention Bureau.
