Man awaiting trial on Sex abuse arrested after failing to register as a sex offender

In July of 2016, Mario Chavez was arrested and charged with harboring a runaway, false imprisonment, assault, and possession of marijuana. He was sentenced to probation, suspended and time served prison sentence. He's also required to register as a sex offender after a previous conviction in 2012 of assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse on a minor under the age of 13.

In October of 2016, Chavez was charged with Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, he is awaiting trial on those charges. In September of 2017 Warrants were issued for Chavez’s arrest for failure to appear and failure to register as a sex offender.

Mario Alberto Chavez, 19 was arrested on Wednesday, November 7th after a tip that he may be at 715 Dubuque Street in Sioux City. Law Enforcement searched the residence but Chavez was not there, he was located a short time later at Casey’s just a few blocks away.

Chavez is charged with probation violation, and 7 counts of sex offender registration violations. This is after numerous failure to register and providing false or unverifiable information to Iowa DCI.

His previous bond has been revoked and he’s currently in custody at Woodbury County Jail awaiting court on his new charges on November 20th and December 7th as well as his previous Sexual Abuse 3rd charge on November 22nd and November 28th. His bond is set at $13,500
