K9 apprehends suspect after pursuit on North Side

Tuesday Evening just after 9:00PM an officer attempted to stop a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier near 22nd and Court when the vehicle did not stop.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop near 25th and Jones where according to court documents police say the driver 31-year-old Wesley Verzani fled on foot. After failing to comply with repeated commands to stop a Police K9 was used to apprehend Verzani. After apprehension police say Verzani hit the Police K9 in the face in an attempt to get the dog to release its grip.

Wesley Verzani was transported to Mercy Medical Center to be checked out and then booked into the Woodbury County Jail on numerous charges including, eluding, Interference with a police K9, driving while barred, drivers license suspended, and no vehicle insurance. He was booked into the Woodbury County Jail and being held on $6,000 Bond.
