Man arrested after trying to pass counterfeit 100 Dollar Bill

Court document say 47-year-old Steven Grau attempted to purchase merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill in Sergeant Bluff on Sunday afternoon about 3:00 PM.

When confronted by workers Grau attempted to take the bill and flee, the store was able to keep the bill. Workers reported the counterfeit bill to police. A description from the store enabled Sergeant Bluff Police to identify Steven Grau as the suspect from the incident when he was arrested later in the day in Sioux City with another counterfeit $100 bill with the same serial number.

Grau was arrested in Sioux City after stealing $54.00 in merchandise and assaulting a Kohls employee in Sioux City. Court documents say that when confronted by the store employee Grau agreed to return to store but then pushed the employee before fleeing.

Steve Grau was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on charges of Forgery, Aggravated Theft and Theft 5th. He’s being held on $15000 Bond with his next court appearance scheduled for March 23rd at 9:00AM.
