Electrical fires in tunnels downtown to blame for explosions

About 6:30PM Wednesday Evening Sioux City Fire Rescue responded to reports of multiple explosions downtown Sioux City in the alley between Pearl and Water Streets from 5th to 6th Street.

Crews blocked off the area, initial reports from crews on scene indicated multiple fires in the tunnels causing the explosions and a split manhole cover. MidAmerican Energy was called into shut off gas and electric and begin repairs to get electric and power restored.

Reports on our Facebook Live Video indicated the explosions could be heard and felt at distance of at least a mile away. Multiple Business have reported not having power, no injuries were reported. The scene was turned over to MidAmerican Energy about 20 minutes after 8:00PM
