Sioux City Police, Sioux City Fire, Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, South Sioux City Police, Sergeant Bluff Police, and the Railroad used various resources to search the area, the train bridge, and the water for the possibility that someone may have jumped from the bridge. Evidence was gathered that lead authorities to believe someone had jumped from the bridge.

After an exhaustive search by private plane, 2 drones, multiple departments on foot in the area the search was called off around 1:30 pm. Sioux City Fire could not put a boat in the water due to icing conditions on the river.
