Suspect in Moville to Sergeant Bluff Pursuit charged with attempted murder

A pursuit that started just after 5:15 pm in Moville when Moville Police attempted to stop a Blue 2002 Ford Escape after receiving reports of a reckless driver. The driver failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit ensued West on Highway 20 toward Sioux City reaching speed in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Woodbury County Sheriff's Deputies and Iowa State Patrol joined in the pursuit of the vehicle through Lawton and into Sioux City. The driver continued to drive recklessly, speeding, and running drivers off the road. Once in Sioux City, Sioux City Police provided assistance in the pursuit by setting up stop sticks. The pursuit of the fleeing driver caused a collision between an Iowa State Patrol vehicle and another vehicle at Gordon Drive and Stone Avenue disabling the trooper's vehicle.

The driver drove into Morningside neighborhoods before heading south on Highway 75 where they continued to elude officers at a high rate of speed out of Sioux City City limits and into Sergeant Bluff. A trooper performed a PIT maneuver at the intersection of Highway 75 and 1st Street causing both the suspect vehicle and the trooper's vehicle to become disabled an end up on the railroad tracks.

Two individuals jumped from the vehicle, one was taken into custody and the other fled the area on foot. Troopers, Officers, and Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. A couple of hours later Dayton Michael Provost, 25 was taken into custody charged with Attempted Murder, Eluding, OWI 3rd, Speeding, Failure to stop at a Stop Sign, Interference with Official Acts, and No vehicle insurance.
