About 3:25 Sunday Morning Woodbury County Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle near 260th and Barker Ave, just outside of Salix, Iowa. The vehicle took off and deputies pursued. A short time later one occupant jumped out of the vehicle and took off on foot before being captured.

The pursuit continued on and ended in a radio call of “shots fired, get me help” over the radio. The deputy requested medical assistance for a gunshot victim and provided dispatch information about another subject running on foot with a gun.

Officers from Sergeant Bluff and Sioux City Police and the Iowa State Patrol assisted Woodbury County Sheriff in setting up a perimeter in the area of the Airport near Sully Rd and Allison Avenue. 185th Airbase security also began patrolling their grounds. Siouxland Paramedics, Sioux City Fire Rescue, and 185th Fire Wing Fire responded for the gunshot victim.

A command post was established near the Sioux City Police Training Center and a manhunt lead by Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department. A thorough search of the area, including trees, river, and homes was conducted on the ground, in the air, and in the water.

No information is available on the status of the gunshot victim or confirmation that they were shot by the deputy. We’ve received information they are at Mercy Medical Center in the custody of Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department. It’s also unclear at this time if all suspects were captured. Some Law Enforcement was still on the scene and in the area as of 8:00AM Sunday.
