Man dies in early morning rural Sloan Fire

About 6:30 a.m. Sloan Fire Rescue was called to 2251 Highway 141 east of Sloan Iowa for reports of a structure fire with one person unaccounted for. There are two homes on the property and the fire was in the rear home which is a total loss.

Fire Chief Lee Blanchard said they could see smoke from the fire on their way from Sloan. When they arrived they began to attack the fire. They were told by a family member that there was one person from the home that was unaccounted for. The fire chief says it took about 30 to 45 minutes to get the fire out due to the floor not being stable and hot spots in the ceiling.

Hornick Fire, Whiting Fire, and Salix Fire assisted with water and rotating of firefighters. Water and Gatorade were delivered to help keep the crew hydrated. Woodbury County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshall Office is on the scene. The cause of the fire still being investigated, there was one confirmed fatality and no other injuries reported.
