According to a release from Sioux City Police Department, the driver identified as 36-year-old Eric Bishop led officers on a pursuit up Floyd Boulevard and into the area of the 4500 Block of North Rustin Street where it drove into a field in an attempt to get away. The occupants fled the vehicle, a van identified as a stolen vehicle which caught fire and started a grass fire.

Sioux City Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire. Acting Assitant Chief, Captain Tom Debondt says they responded to a vehicle fire which extended to a grass fire. They were able to quickly extinguish the fires, the grass fire was contained to a small area but the van was a total loss.

A homeowner told Siouxland Scanner that his wife called him because she saw smoke and thought it was a grass fire. Police on the scene had the resident leave the home until the fire was put out. Law Enforcement told us Bishop was captured by law enforcement while trying to break into a home in the area. Initially, police believed there may be been two occupants in the vehicle. Only one arrest was made at the scene and we've been unable to confirm if there was a second.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
