As gas leaked from the broken pipe residents in the apartment building were evacuated and firefighters checked the area for gas levels to ensure safety of nearby homes. Streets a block in direction were closed while they waited for MidAmerican Energy to come and shut off the gas.

The driver of the vehicle fled the area after the crash. Police say when they contacted the registered owner they reported the truck as being stolen.

No injuries were reported, the truck and at least one apartment sustained considerable damage from the accident.
