Juvenile male hospitalized with serious injuries after being shot during robbery

Court documents say that while walking in the 1600 Block of Pierce Street a Juvenile Male and his friends were approached by Robinson, Drappeaux, and Wright. Wright who brandished a handgun while the three robbed one of the friends of a Cell Phone and Snacks just purchased from Kum & Go. A Juvenile Male was struck on the right side of his chest and the lower right side of his back. It was determined at the hospital he received damage to his lung and liver from small caliber bullets.

A release from Sioux City Police says that after being called to 13th and Pierce Streets for a disturbance they determined that a Robbery had taken place near 16th and Pierce where a victim had been robbed at gunpoint.

A Juvenile male approached police at 1373 Pierce Street with gunshot wounds, he was transported to Mercy Medical Center with Serious Injuries.

Just before Midnight Sioux City Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene. For more than an hour Police gave commands over a loudspeaker for occupants to come out with their hands up. About 1:30am two suspects from the apartment building exited and surrendered without incident.

Police continued for another hour giving commands for anyone in the building to come with their hands up in order to end the incident without further injury. SWAT entered and cleared the building about 2:30am. Residents in surrounding dwellings were evacuated and streets in the area shut down as a precaution until about 3:00am.

Three individuals, 20-year-old Darius Wright, 18-year-old Dontaiven Drappeaux, and 20-year-old Tykell Robinson were arrested and charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Wright was also charged with Attempted Murder. Wright is being held on $75,000 Bond and Robinson and Drappeaux on $25,000 Bond.

The release says the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident are asked to contact Sioux City Crime Stoppers at 712-258-TIPS (8477) or Sioux City Police at 712-279-6960. There was no mention of a stabbing victim which we previously wrote about.

Police responded to 14th and Pierce Kum & Go in Sioux City about 11:20pm on Friday evening for reports of a shooting victim and stabbing victim.

Witness reports indicated that someone was shot in the area of 16th and Pierce Streets. Police setup a perimeter around an apartment. SWAT responded to the scene and police attempted to get the occupants of the apartment to come out. About 1:30AM 2 males surrendered and were taken into custody.

Sergeant Terry Ivener confirmed that two individuals were taken to the hospital one with a gunshot wound and one with a stab wound, neither life threatening. Neighboring dwellings were temporarily evacuated, Piece Street was shutdown from 18th to 15th Street and 16th Street shutdown from Jackson to Douglas until about 3:00am.

Spent shells were located at the scene, an investigation into the incident is underway.
