Throughout the summer Sioux City Fire Rescue will select random locations throughout the city, open up a hydrant and host hydrant parties.
On Monday, June 19th Sioux City Fire Rescue held their first Hydrant Party at 9th and Iowa Streets in Sioux City from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The events are free and open to the public. Additional events will be held throughout the city. Dates, times and locations will be announced on their Facebook Page.
Joe Rodriguez with Sioux City Fire Rescue says the reason for the event is so the community can meet with firefighters have a good time and cool off. He says it's also a good time to remind everyone the importance of working smoke alarms.
Sioux City Fire Rescue will help anyone in the city replace batteries in their smoke alarms, they even will provide free smoke alarms if you don't have one.
