1 Fatality 4 Injured in I29 Crash near Elk Point

Numerous agencies responded to an accident on I29 Northbound Mile Marker 18 Near Elk Point on Monday afternoon at approximately 1:30PM

According to a release from the South Dakota State Patrol, a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox occupied by two females was traveling southbound on I29 when the vehicle veered across the median and into the northbound lanes where it collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Express Van occupied by three males.

A female passenger of the Equinox, a 32-year-old, died from her injuries. A 42-year-old male passenger of the Van sustained life-threatening injuring. Neither were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the Equinox a 24-year-old female and a 69-year-old male driver of the van suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A 35-year-old male passenger of the van sustained minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate. Other agencies at the scene were the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Elk Point Police, Elk Point Fire/EMS, Vermillion EMS, Jefferson EMS and Siouxland Paramedics.

Names have not yet been released and the crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota State Patrol.
