Arrest in stolen car leads to another stolen car and thefts

Courts Documents say that Allen Steven Mach, 30 admitted he planned to sell the car he stole for $2000 and that he stole another car and wallet 9 days earlier.


On Monday, February 27th about 11:00 AM the father of the victim of the stolen vehicle Mach was in spotted the vehicle and followed it to Walgreen where 3 people ran from the vehicle. The father was able to detain Mach until police arrived.

The driver of the vehicle told police that Mach had shown up at her residence and said he was selling the car for $2000, he then had her drive the vehicle when the victims father spotted it. Mach admitted that he was going to sell the vehicle.

Allen Mach was charged with Theft 2nd, for this incident.


During the investigation, Police were able to identify from a security video that Mach was also a suspect in another stolen vehicle on 2/18/2017 about 3:45 PM when he took it and drove it a couple blocks away where he looked through it for items of value. He stole a wallet containing $150, two debit cards, a driver's license and other items. 2 Samsung Cell phones and chargers. He used that debit card for two purchases, for of $7.69 and another of $49.43.

Mach admitted to taking the vehicle, wallet and cell phone charger but denied taking the phones.

Allen Mach was charged with Identity Theft, Unauthorized use of Credit Card, Operating without Owners Consent, Theft 2nd, Possession of Marijuana, and No Drivers License for that incident.

Police say that a taxi driver notices his daughter stolen car on Monday and calls 911 and begins following the stolen car, a Hyundai Sonata stolen in Sioux City on Sunday.

The suspect came to a stop at the Burger King Parking Lot on Pierce Street in Sioux City when the father, armed with mace and a taser was able to detain the driver of the vehicle using his mace until police arrived.

A Woodbury County Sheriff’s Deputy was in the area and able to assist until Sioux City Police arrived. Two passengers in the vehicle were apprehended by Law Enforcement in the area. Sioux City Police, Woodbury County Sheriff Deputies, and Iowa State Patrol assisted.

Witnesses and Security Camera footage allowed police to easily identify the suspects that ran. Three suspects were taken into custody. The car was identified as the stolen car, the plates had been swapped out.
