Just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18th Sioux City Police, Sioux City Fire, and Siouxland Paramedics responded to an accident involving a vehicle and a train on the West side of 31st Street near Highway 75 in Sioux City.

Police Lieutenant Mark Kirkpatrick say that it's believed the vehicle was traveling at a higher rate of speed where it collided with a believed to be a stationary train after the vehicle avoided hitting the stop arms. The accident is still under investigation.

A single occupant, a male driver died as a result of the accident.
