Police investigating homicide after man was stabbed at a Sioux City apartment Saturday

In a release, Monday Sioux City Police identify the victim as 21-year-old James R D Purcell. They say they responded to a disturbance call at 420 17th Street. A male was transported to the hospital with a stab wound and later died as a result of his injuries. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.


Sioux City Police responded to the 1700 Block of Pierce Street about 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 3rd. Initial scanner traffic indicated that a person fell from a balcony. The call was almost immediately changed to reports of a stabbing.

As we arrived on scene Siouxland Paramedics were transporting a patient to the hospital, as Sioux City Fire Rescue was leaving they were requested back to the scene as well as another ambulance for reports of a person with head injuries. Witnesses tell Siouxland Scanner that multiple people were fighting and a man was stabbed and thrown over the balcony.

Sioux City Police Detective Nick Thompson confirms that a man was stabbed and a Homicide Investigation is underway. The investigation has just begun and more information will be released later.
