Lower leg amputated after victim was rammed by a car in South Sioux City

Siouxland Scanner received reports that a man was rammed by a White Ford Explorer in South Sioux City on Monday, June 6th, 2016 causing severe damage to his leg and the Budget Host Motel in South Sioux City.

Witnesses say after a fight at the Budget Host Motel over a missing cell phone, Ruben left the scene and returned a short time later driving at a high rate of speed that he rammed into a red vehicle that was parked. Two people were between the vehicle and building and were injured as a result. Both were transported to Mercy Medical Center, one with a severe injury to their lower left leg, which had to be amputated. Vela was identified by witnesses as the driver of the Ford Explorer. Vela left the scene and was arrested and booked into Dakota County Jail on June 10th where he is being held on $500,000 Bond.

Court documents show that Ruben Vela, 47 was arrested and charged with; Assault in the first degree, Assault in the second degree, failure to stop at the scene of an injury accident, and 2 counts of criminal mischief.
