The pursuit was currently taking place in the area of Highway 75 and 14th Street, just North of Floyd Cemetary. Sioux City Police did not join in the pursuit but helped build a perimeter and were ready to provide non-pursuit assistance. It was said the suspect vehicle had non-matching plates on the vehicle and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

During the pursuit, the Trooper rammed the fleeing car in an attempt to stop it, causing damage but not disabling the vehicle. Due to difficulties with the patrol vehicle the Trooper was unable to continue to pursue and the suspect fled in their vehicle described as a Silver Nissan with racing stripes, as a result of the pursuit the car would now be missing it's rear bumper and have damage to the driver side.
