Victim identified death and fire investigation continue in Bancroft House Fire

An updated press release on Thursday identifies 64-year-old Ernest Warnock as the remains found in the house fire on Saturday. The cause of death is not being released as the investigation of his death and the fire is ongoing.

A press release on Tuesday afternoon confirms that Bancroft, Rosalie and Pender Fire responded to a house fire about 2:22 PM on Saturday, March 22nd north of Bancroft.

The release says that human remains were discovered burned in the home. Nebraska Fire Marshall's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Cuming County Sheriff and Thurston County Sheriff all responded to the scene. The fire investigation is ongoing. An autopsy has been performed and more information will be released pending identification of the body and notification of relatives.

A house fire in Rural Bancroft Nebraska, about 3 miles North of Bancroft and 2 miles West of Rosalie in Cuming County claimed the life of one on Saturday.

We've been unable to confirm much information about the fire from law enforcement but learned that one person may have died and Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the possibly of relation between the fire Saturday Afternoon and the stabbing victim located in Dakota County on Early Saturday Morning.

We visited the scene of the fire Sunday afternoon but Nebraska State Patrol was unable to answer any questions or confirm a death or link to the stabbing. We have received reports that someone died in the fire and Nebraska State Patrol confirming the area was considered a crime scene and investigators were on the scene Sunday.

We were also on scene at Mercy Medical Center when Nebraska State Patrol had a vehicle towed Saturday Night tied to the stabbing that was discovered early Saturday Morning in Dakota County.
