Suspected intoxicated driver crashes into Police SUV in Sioux City

In the Early Morning Hours Friday a Sioux City Police Offer suffered minor injuries when his SUV was hit by a suspected intoxicated driver.


A release from Sioux City Police says a 2004 Chevrolet truck driven by Stephanie Adams, 29 of Moorehead, Iowa failed to yield and struck Police Sergeant Terry Ivener's Patrol vehicle at the intersection of Leech Ave and South Rustin St about 1:52AM.

Adams was transported to Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries and an investigation is underway as she is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sergeant Ivener was also transported to Mercy Medical Center for minor injuries and was released. His patrol vehicle is considered a total loss.

Sioux City Fire Rescue were called to Leech and South Rustin at 1:53AM in Sioux City after a Sioux City Police officers SUV was hit by a suspected intoxicated driver. The officer keyed his mic and said "I was in a PD, just got struck, send medical." Initial responding crews requested assistance from additional fire rescue crews to remove the driver side doors from the Police SUV.

Traffic was re-routed temporarily while crews worked to free the officer, provide medical attention and clean up the scene.


Sioux City Police posted this photo and statement to their Facebook Page on Friday Afternoon. "Overnight, One of our officers was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Leech Avenue with a suspected intoxicated driver. He was transported to the hospital with non serious injuries. We are thankful that his injuries are not worse, and for the assistance provided by Sioux City Fire Rescue and Paramedics."
