Just after 11:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28 an accident at K18 and Highway 3 was reported East of Akron Iowa in Plymouth County.
Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Akron Fire and Ambulance, Siouxland Paramedics and Mercy Air Care responded to the accident.
A release from Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says that there were 4 passengers in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was Northbound on K18 traveling at a very high rate of speed when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 3. Just past the intersection, the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled several times before coming to a stop on its top after striking a utility pole which broke off. Two passengers sustained serious injuries, one which was thrown from the vehicle. The other two received minor injuries. Three of the Four passengers were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, the release says. Two by ground ambulance and one by air ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing and further details and names of those involved will be released at a later time.
