Reckless driver reaching speeds over 100mph on I29 crashes during pursuit

A driver who was attempting to elude police after being caught traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph crashed Thursday Morning about 10:50 a.m. after attempting to outrun police in Sioux City Iowa and North Sioux City South Dakota.


According to a release from Sioux City Police Diego Cancino, 18 the driver was spotted by Sioux City Police on Interstate 29 operating an Audi at speeds of 100 mph. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle it fled into North Sioux City.

Chief Headid from North Sioux City Police says he spotted and attempted to stop it for reckless driving when the vehicle then took off Southbound on Interstate 29 and back into Iowa. Chief said he had called off the pursuit as it entered into Iowa because he felt it was unsafe to pursue. Sioux City Police was waiting on the Iowa side with lights activated. The vehicle continued to drive recklessly at high rates of speed when it lost control on the Riverside Bridge on the Interstate 29 Southbound Onramp.

The release says that after the crash 4 individuals took off on foot from the vehicle. Two were apprehended near the exit while two others went into the woods along the river and were apprehended a short time later. Law Enforcement from multiple agencies including a K9 from Woodbury County Sheriff's Office were able to establish a perimeter and track the 2 suspects which lead to their apprehension.

3 Adults and 1 Juvenile have been charged in relation to the incident.


Diego Cancino, 18 has been charged with speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change, failure to stop at stop sign, possession marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have control, simple eluding, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and no drivers license. He's being held on $3700 Bond.

Yehudi Reyes, 18 has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, simple eluding, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor and being held on $1900 Bond.
