man convicted of voluntary manslaughter after the body of Jardell Sibley was found wrapped in a tarp in April of 1999 [Sioux City Journal] did not return to the residential treatment facility work release program on Monday, June 5th in Sioux City.

Court Documents show in November of 1999, Berndt was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, reckless use of a firearm with serious injury, going armed with intent, possession of offensive weapons, theft 1st degree, and terrorism. He was sentenced to fifty years in prison. After serving 15 years Berndt was released from prison into a residential treatment facility in July of 2014 and then released on parole in December 2014.

In February of 2017, Berndt was arrested for drugs and operating while intoxicated. His parole was revoked according to court documents, he was sent back to the residential treatment facility where authorities say he failed to return on Monday evening. Bernt is a 38-year-old, white male, 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing 203 lbs.
