Sergeant Bluff Duplex fire intentionally set Wednesday police say

Shortly after 5:00 pm on February 28th Sergeant Bluff Police and Sergeant Bluff Fire responded to 1342 Vandenburg Circle for reports of a house fire.


Upon arrival heavy fire and smoke was seen coming from the South Duplex. Sergeant Bluff Fire requested the assistance of The 185th Fire and North Sioux City Fire. Sioux City Fire responded to assist other fire agencies in refilling air packs. Police made contact with a female who admitted to starting the fire. She is being held for psychiatric evaluation.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and nobody was home in either place except the person who admitted to starting the fire. The south side of the duplex received extensive fire and smoke damage and the North Side minor smoke and fire damage. The State Fire Marshall is assisting Sergeant Bluff Police and Fire with the investigation.
