Man arrested after two overnight carjackings and a pursuit

Sioux City Police responded to the 4600 block of Morningside Avenue Saturday morning July 27th at 12:17 am after a man approached someone in their vehicle at an ATM demanded their cash and vehicle at gunpoint. The suspect fled in the victim's vehicle.

South Sioux City Police located the victim's car unoccupied a while later. At about 1:30 am the suspect carjacked a second vehicle in South Sioux City at gunpoint near 13th and Dakota. A short time later Sioux City Police spotted the vehicle near Gordon and Nebraska in Sioux City and attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect fled across the viaduct where the vehicle got a flat tire. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended.

Jeremiah Joseph Shortenhaus, 25 is charged with Robbery 1st, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Eluding, and Theft 2nd and will likely face charged in Nebraska as well. He's currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on $40,000 Bond.
