County Attorney will determine charges in Sioux City where man died after being shot

On August 1st just before 8:30 pm, the Sioux City Police Department responded to the 1600 block of W 2nd St after they received a report of a shooting in a residence.

Officers responding to the scene found that an adult male was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The shooting victim was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injury during the early morning hours of August 2nd. A subject involved in the incident fled the residence before officers arrived, but was later located in South Sioux City. He was detained by the South Sioux City Police Department while Sioux City officers continued their investigation. Detectives determined that the victim and subject detained were handling the firearm involved when it discharged striking the victim.

Once the investigation is complete, the matter will be referred to the Woodbury County Attorney's Office for consideration of charges. At this time the names of the victim and other parties involved are not being released. The investigation is ongoing.
