Two arrests made after a shooting near 15th and Myrtle and a following pursuit

Sioux City Police responded to the area of 15th and Myrtle Streets about 1:51 am Wednesday for reports of shots fired.




When they arrived they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The male was transported by EMS to the hospital. As police were checking the area a female fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for officers.

The pursuit went north on Hamilton Boulevard into Plymouth County and then circled back and into Sioux City. Just as the driver Tara Martin, 34 entered city limits Sioux City Police deployed spike strips disabling her vehicle about half a mile later where she was taken into custody. She was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Felony Eluding, Speeding, Reckless Driving, and Suspended Drivers license.

Police continued to investigate in the area of the shooting at 1422 Myrtle Street. An arrest was made of Alejandro Joaquin Lapointe, 20 charged with Willful Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and assault while participating in a felony.

The shooting is believed to have started with a verbal altercation.
