Man dies in Sergant Bluff Iowa after Officer Involved shooting while investigating a burglary

A release from the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations says that Law enforcement was responding to a burglary in process at the Woodford Mobile Home Park in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Two Woodbury County Deputies that arrived were directed to a white male who was attempting to force entry into a trailer home.


When deputies made contact with the subject he advanced on the deputies with a tire iron. After an unsuccessful taser deployment, the man struck one of the deputies and the other fired their service weapon striking the subject. Aid was provided at the scene and then by Sergeant Bluff Ambulance. The subject was transported to Mercy Medical Center where they died as a result of the gunshot.

Iowa DCI is investigating the shooting. Assistance is being provided in the investigation by Sergeant Bluff Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Woodbury County SHeriff’s Office.

An autopsy will be scheduled at the Iowa Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny Iowa.

The injured deputy has been treated and released from the hospital and has been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is being released at this time.
